Bob thanked the 3 pre-meeting speakers, Jennifer Gidaro, Luis Morales and Ted Goldman for their wonderful presentations to the camera club.

New members and guests ~ There were 4 new members at tonight’s meeting.

Meeting date change reminder ~ Due to a conflict with the upcoming historic election on our normal camera club meeting night, there will be a change of meeting date.  Please make a note that we will NOT have a camera club meeting on the previously scheduled night of November 8th.  The meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30 pm.  Mike Moats will be speaking to our club on Thursday, November 3rd about Macro Photography at 7:30 pm.  The Members Forum will present Stephen Williams at 6:30 pm.  Stephen will provide insight into his work with Ansel Adams and his Inuit project.

Committee Chair updates ~ Helen Wagner, Outreach Committee Coordinator, announced that there is a date change for the Penn State Great Valley program.  The new date for select camera club members to present topics on photography will be April 15, 2017.  The topic is Photography is an Art through Lenses.  The committee is asking interested members to contact Helen by the end of October if they are interested in being a presenter OR if they would like to promote their personal business to guests; sales are prohibited.  So far 1 club member has expressed interest in participating.

Also, camera club members are encouraged to submit digital images to the CCCC website by 11:59 pm on 10/31 for consideration by a 3-member juried committee (who are not club members). If selected, members may hang their prints at the Conference Center Gallery on the Penn State Great Valley campus from the second week of February - end of the first week of May.  Members may submit a maximum of 5 digital images.  To learn more about the Penn State Great Valley Program, club members may click on the CCCC website, Club Information, Discussion Forums.

Sally Riddle, committee member, told the club that framed images may be sold; the committee will assist members with framing and/or pricing questions.  Sally strongly encouraged all members to submit images!

Steve Williams, committee member, told the club that images will be hung in a huge, beautiful gallery at Penn State Great Valley.  He also encouraged all members to participate.  Selected images must ready to hang in the gallery; they can be framed, canvas wrap, metal (which needs framing due to its fragile nature), etc.

Workshops ~ Wayne Dixon, Workshops coordinator - announced that Dick Greenwood will offer a workshop on Composition in November.  Jim Wilson will also offer a workshop in January.

Presentation ~ Robert Kelly, President, introduced tonight’s guest speaker, Frank Smith who presented "Cuba - A Moment in Time.”  Olympus Visionary Trailblazer, Frank, is a self-taught photographer whose love for the craft goes back to a very early age.  Decades later, Frank’s passion for photography has yet to fade and he continues to perfect his skills.  As a philanthropic photojournalist, Frank’s travel covers global themes, shedding light on cultural issues including regional corruption in areas such as South Sudan, Haiti, and Mumbai.  A native Northeasterner, Frank often focuses his lens on national and regional scenery in the US.  His work has been featured in the media, print, exhibits, and in philanthropic awareness campaigns.  His goal is to help others see the un-obvious and to instill the desire for creativity.

Cuba is unique.  Here is a place where time, in essence, has stood still.  He was fortunate enough to travel there in December 2014; while there, the US & Cuba committed to reestablish diplomatic ties.  Cuba is a myriad of artistic, social and sensual pleasures.  The people are warm, the environment amazing and the architecture is stunning.  The photographic opportunities in Cuba are unparalleled.  The challenge in Cuba was deciding what not to photograph!  His photos of Cuba come from walking the streets, which was truly a walk back in time, where the clock has stood still, relative to all that we know and experience here in the US.  From ballet to boxing, Frank had the opportunity to photograph the arts, not in a performance setting, but in their practice venues.  Cuba is truly an area that is a gift to photographers and he is thankful that he was there at this point in time before much of it will change.  Check out Frank’s website here:  http://www.franksmithphotos.com

Next Meeting ~ The next competition night is October 25 at the Chester County Hospital, Rhoads Building.  The assigned topic is “Moving Water (Waters at shore/waterfalls)”.  The deadline for submitting images is Sunday, January 23 at 11:59 pm.  Jon Cox will judge this competition.
